On the 13-15 of March 2023, the Central Asia Hub of the PEER Network organised a three-day “Research outputs and dissemination” workshop in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) for early-career researchers from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as part of the PEER Networks’ Research and Practice Fellowships.

Introductory Workshop for Nazarbayev University GSE PhD students on “Researching the Political Economy of Education and Conflict in Times of Conflict & Crises”
On 29 September 2022, the Central Asia hub conducted an introductory workshop for PhD students of Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education. The workshop was facilitated by Professor Mario Novelli (University of Sussex), Professor Naureen Durrani and Associate Professor Hélène Thibault (Nazarbayev University). During the introductory one-day workshop, participants explored a number of questions relating to what political economy analysis of education is, why it might be useful and how it relates to research on education in Kazakhstan and the broader Central Asia region.

On the 28th of September 2022, Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education hosted a public lecture, “The Imperial Entanglements of ‘Education in Emergencies’: From Saving Souls to Saving Schools?” by Professor Mario Novelli. On the 28th of September, Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education hosted a public lecture, “The Imperial Entanglements of ‘Education in Emergencies’: From Saving Souls to Saving Schools?” by Professor Mario Novelli. Professor Novelli spoke of the relationship between ‘International Education and Development’ actors and foreign intervention in our colonial past and present, focusing on Education in Emergencies.
