Joy Sambo

Joy Sambo is a master’s student at Hokkaido University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology with Gender Studies from the University of Zambia. She is extremely passionate about sustainable solid waste management and menstrual health and hygiene management using mixed methods approaches to measuring impactful research. Prior to that, she worked at The University of Zambia as a Sociology tutor in the school of humanities and social sciences for a year. Joy’s recent works have focused on assessing schoolgirls’ menstrual management practices and needs in the Zambian peri-urban settings, and gender issues surrounding girls’ education in relation to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), especially amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. This experience drives her resolve to engage in research to further understand and contribute to research in the education arena on matters relating to schoolgirls menstrual experiences and needs, among other menstrual related challenges faced in the Zambian education.
