Aigerim Mussabalinova

Aigerim Mussabalinova is a research assistant at the School of Postgraduate Education, Nazarbayev University, Kazakhstan. She obtained her doctoral degree in Law from the University of Sussex, the United Kingdom. Her doctoral research focused on the right of the child to be raised in the family, how this right is fulfilled in Kazakhstan and in England. Current research interests of Aigerim include children rights and interests, Central Asian studies on child’s protection system, inclusive education, and treatment of vulnerable groups of children. In addition to research and teaching experience, Aigerim collaborates with non-governmental organisations, including UNICEF Kazakhstan, and the Government of Kazakhstan and provide consultancy as an expert on children’s rights and the best interests of the child.

Missing generation of the disabled children of independent Kazakhstan (1991-2021)

This research discusses the violation of the right to education of disabled children in Semipalatinsk in the context of the post-Cold War. The author argues that there was a missed generation of children with disabilities of the 90s, as they did not have or had limited access to education.
